| {ad}VENTURE. It is here. It is now. I am thinking this week about the term "adventure". I often catch myself saying "I want to go on an adventure"; or hearing others talk about missions as an adventure to be had. What I have been realizing as I reflect on this is that I am literally living an adventure everyday; but it is a matter of whether I recognize that or not. "Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content" Philippians 4:11 It is so easy to look at the tasks of life- going to work, working out, spending time with friends and family, school, cooking, grocery shopping, paying bills, etc- and think that this is the mundane; nothing special. To look out at countries abroad and opportunities afar and think: over there is the adventure, that is where I long to be. But, what if, the adventure we're looking for is here and now, in the mundane tasks of life; and it is actually ourselves who are limiting the adventure to be had because we are not content? I challenge you to look at your week; to wake up each morning and thank God with excitement for the adventure to be had in the tasks ahead. The adventure of paying bills, of working out, of going to work. Adventure is to be had in the here and now. We have the ability to live the ordinary and let it be extraordinary- to do something risky and daring. To meet someone new on our commute, to work out with our neighbor, to host an open house and invite people into our life. To get off Facebook and social media and go and be social; to make memories. So let's live the call "to be a witness" (Acts 1:8) and get over our own ideas of what adventure looks like and live the adventure before us: the adventure of the here and now.** **Note: If the Lord is stirring your heart to get trained and GO overseas or to another area...DO IT. I'm just saying to check your heart that you aren't looking for a means to escape your present mission where you are now. And if you do have the heart to GO- and the time is right- check out www.missiondifferently.com for some great opportunities! |
